Under the patronage of the Deanship of the College of Medicine and in accordance with the directives of the Presidency of the University of Baghdad, a workshop was held to mark the International Day for the Prevention of Violent Extremism as and when Conducive to Terrorism. The workshop was delivered by Lecturer Assistant Professor Roaa Badawi Hamza on February 11, reaffirming the pivotal role of academic institutions in safeguarding community security and promoting social peace.<\/p>\n
The event featured a review of the key components of Iraq\u2019s National Strategy for Countering Violent Extremism, with particular emphasis on the role of education as the first line of defense against extremist ideology.<\/p>\n
The workshop also addressed a range of factors contributing to the spread of extremism, including economic, social, and political challenges. It highlighted the need to address these factors through the continuous development of academic curricula in ways that foster critical thinking, citizenship, and a sense of responsible belonging.<\/p>\n
The presentations further emphasized the important role of universities and research centers in scientifically analyzing and deconstructing extremist narratives, as well as the need to strengthen cooperation between government institutions and international organizations in order to build a sound knowledge-based environment capable of protecting society from being drawn into destructive ideologies.<\/p>\n
The College of Medicine reaffirms its continued commitment to fulfilling its academic and national role in promoting a culture of moderation and tolerance, firmly believing that cultivating an informed and conscious individual constitutes the foundation for building a safe and stable nation.<\/p>\n
