In an academic step aimed at raising awareness of the harms of drug abuse and explaining its negative effects The College of Information at the University of Baghdad hosted, on Tuesday morning, the nineteenth of April, the Dean of the College of Medicine, in a scientific lecture on the effect of recreational drugs on the heart The scientific lecture by Professor Dr. Ameen Al-Alwani aims to explain the negative effects resulting from drug abuse, such as high blood pressure, accelerated heartbeat, decreased breathing rate, and reduced blood flow to the vital organs in the body The importance of awareness and prevention of drug abuse and commitment to a healthy lifestyle to avoid heart attacks, strokes and sudden death. Dr. Ameen Al-Alwani also explains the negative psychological and social effects such as addiction and social isolation and stresses the need to be careful and stay away from drug use to maintain public health. Recommendations call for launching intensive media campaigns aimed at educating youth and society in general about the danger of drug abuse, with campaigns directed to support individuals suffering from drug addiction to obtain the necessary assistance and appropriate treatment. The Dean of the College of Medicine reveals a disturbing and general phenomenon of many citizens taking medications without consulting doctors, which exposes them to the risk of addiction without them realizing it, and constitutes a major challenge to public health that may result in serious drug interactions and negative effects on health.
