The College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad hosted a discussion for a master’s thesis in clinical biochemistry entitled "Management of Hypertension Using Some Minerals and Herbal Supplements: Withania somnifera, Himalayan Salt" by student Huda Latif Hassan Karim.
Discussion Committee
- Chair: Dr. Basil Awaid Muhammad Saleh
- Members:
- Dr. Ghazi Farhan Haji
- Dr. Raya Salman Baban
- Supervisors:
- A. Dr. Maysaa Jalal Majeed
- Dr. Ameen Al-Alwani
Thesis Aim
The thesis aimed to examine the effectiveness of Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), magnesium taurate, and Himalayan salt in treating hypertension and lowering blood pressure levels in patients with chronic hypertension.
Key Findings
The study highlighted the potential use of Ashwagandha, magnesium taurate, and Himalayan salt in controlling high blood pressure. According to the research, significant improvements in blood pressure were attributed to:
- Decreased cortisol levels
- Changes in potassium levels with the same osmolality
- Alterations in other mineral levels
The combination of Withania somnifera, known for its adaptogenic properties, and magnesium taurate may help reduce stress, a critical factor in managing high blood pressure. Additionally, Himalayan salt, rich in essential minerals, can contribute to overall cardiovascular health.
Conclusion
The study concluded that the combination of Withania somnifera, magnesium taurate, and Himalayan salt offers a comprehensive approach to managing hypertension. However, it emphasized the need for further research and clinical trials to verify the effectiveness and safety of this combination in managing high blood pressure.
Result
After a public discussion and thorough examination of her thesis, the discussion committee awarded Huda Latif Hassan Karim an excellent grade. The committee commended her use of scientific references and her defense of the thesis.
