• The department established in 1927 with college establishment.
  • It was located in the faculty building till 1953 where it was transferred to its current location.

To provide medical students with a basic understanding of the structural organization of the human body at the gross (macroscopical) & microscopical levels with special emphasis on the applied aspect of the science.

1. To provide the students with knowledge in Anatomy (and related branches; Histology, Embryology & Medical Biology) sufficient for them to be involved in their future practice as efficient and safe primary health care members.

2. In this knowledge, the department views recent advances in these disciplines and ensures that students gain clinically oriented, up-to-date knowledge that can be applied in clinical practice.

3. Stimulate & direct students to gain knowledge relevant to their future field by adding information from sources other than the adopted college programs.

4. To graduate postgraduate candidates fit in their knowledge & research capabilities to be teaching staff members & researchers in Anatomy & relevant sub-branches.

5. To stimulate the teaching staff members & postgraduate candidates in research work taking into consideration the recent international trend in research work.

6. Promote communication skills for students by doing seminars & side discussions during practical lessons.

Undergraduates:

  • Teaching depends on theory & practical sessions
  • Theory is given in large groups using updated audiovisual techniques
  • Practical sessions are given as team based learning sessions with aid of virtual tables & plastinated bodies
  • The syllabus was based on annual academic years till 2013-2014 where the integrated system was adopted
  • Updates done on the syllabus under supervision of the higher committee
