Goal of the Course

  • Discuss the central and peripheral nervous system histologically and physiologically.
  • Study some medical conditions such as stroke, Parkinson’s disease, and multiple sclerosis.
  • Conduct a detailed study of the eye in terms of spasm, anatomy, and functions.
  • Study the ear in terms of tissue, anatomy, and function.

Outcome of this Module

A. Cognitive and Theoretical Goals:

  • Know the embryology of the nervous system.
  • Know the histology of the eye, ear, and central nervous system.
  • Know the anatomy of the central and peripheral nervous system.
  • Know different functions of the different parts of both divisions of the nervous system.

B. Skills:

  • How to examine the ear and the eye.
  • How to do a proper sensory and motor exam.
  • How to do the reflexes.
  • How to examine the cranial nerves.

Methods of Learning

  • Large and small group lectures.
  • Laboratory lectures (Anatomy, Physiology, and Histology).

Methods of Assessment

  • Formative assessment (web-based not marked).
  • End module exam.
  • Final practical exam.
  • Summative Exam (written) - 40 marks.

  • Understand the damages that neurological diseases can cause, such as stroke and Parkinson's.
  • Understand the impact of multiple sclerosis.
