The logo was designed by Mrs. Elsie MunGavin—wife of the British physician Sir Harry Chapman Sinderson, the college’s first dean—drawing inspiration from the historical and cultural symbols of Mesopotamia. The design features the Tigris and Euphrates rivers converging to form the Shatt al-Arab, with an open book positioned between them; a serpent—a symbol of medicine and healing—is depicted winding its way up the pages. Flanking the Shatt al-Arab are two winged bulls, symbolizing the ancient heritage and authenticity of the Mesopotamian civilization, as well as its deep historical roots and the prestigious cultural legacy it achieved. Through its composition and symbolism, the logo embodies the convergence of science and knowledge with medicine, and reflects the link between the college’s mission and Iraq’s history and ancient civilization.
