Scientific Promotions Committee Unit

Overview of the Unit

The Scientific Promotions Committee Unit is one of the most important units in the college due to its significant role in promoting the academic ranks of teaching staff, following up on applications, and approving the awarding of academic titles after the approval of the Central Scientific Promotions Committee and the University President for (Lecturer, Assistant Professor), as well as the University Council for (Professor). These are carried out in accordance with the promotion regulations established by the Ministry. The main tasks of the unit include:

  • Reviewing and verifying the promotion applications received from departments, preparing a summary of the research submitted by the promotion candidate, and calculating the total points from Table (1) and Table (2), which are then presented to the Scientific Promotions Committee and the College Council for approval and ratification.
  • Corresponding with and following up with evaluators for applications that require research evaluation, in preparation for their submission to the Promotions Committee and College Council.
  • Holding regular meetings to discuss applications received from departments and making appropriate decisions, whether approving the promotion, returning the application if it is incomplete or does not meet the requirements, or promoting the application and sending the research to evaluators if required.
  • Discussing the directives and guidelines received from the university and circulating them to the departments.

Vision

Scientific promotion is one of the most fundamental aspects for academic staff in the college to achieve higher academic ranks as stipulated by the law of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. It is a right for teaching staff who fulfill all its requirements in accordance with the relevant instructions issued by the Ministry. Scientific promotion is a deserved acknowledgment of the efforts made throughout the academic journey. The college is a key component in the process of awarding academic promotion, culminating in achieving the highest ranks.

Mission

Scientific promotion research represents some of the most sophisticated research that an academic should prepare. The researcher must adhere to rigor, diligence, and scientific integrity during its preparation. Through research, the academic gains experience and scrutiny, which refines their intellectual ideas. This, in turn, leads to a passion and enthusiasm for continuing scientific research—writing, reading, and critiquing.

Objectives

Scientific promotion research plays a significant role in contributing new additions to scientific inquiry, aiming to achieve global rankings by publishing in reputable journals indexed in international repositories. Scientific promotion also acts as a motivation for success, as it represents a form of advancement in the academic ladder. It provides opportunities for occupying prestigious positions, allowing researchers to share their knowledge and contribute to the academic journey.

Scientific Background

Providing a strong incentive for academics and researchers to increase their scientific activities (such as research, books, patents, scientific conferences, etc.) and to boost publication activity in esteemed scientific journals, thereby enhancing the progress of the University of Baghdad in global rankings, developing the country, and serving the community.
