About the Department
The Faculty of Medicine was established in 1927, and at that time there was no official, director, or special department for registration, but rather the administration and the secretariat of the deanship were responsible for student affairs and registration.
The Registration Department in the college is the main reference for everything related to students, their attendance, and their absence. The first director of the Registration Department was Professor Dr. Sidris in 1952-1956. He was a professor of chemistry and a Dutch national.
After that, the library official, Mr. Abdul Nisan, took over the responsibility of registration, noting that the number of students until the sixties did not exceed 28-30 students per year.
After the revolution of July 14, 1958, the number of students began to increase, reaching 60, then 80, and then until the number reached 200, 300, and sometimes more than 400 students in the eighties.
In the last three years, the college's capacity has been set at 200 students, depending on the teaching staff and laboratory capabilities, noting that the actual number reaches 250 students, an increase of 25%, and that the policy of the College of Medicine Council is moving towards re-recognizing the college's certificate and working to improve quality and standardization and obtain international accreditation.
Many professors have taken over the responsibility of the Registration Department for different periods, and currently Assistant Professor Dr. Samara Muwaffaq is responsible for the Registration Department.
The number of graduates of the first session is 121 students; while the number of graduates of the last session for the academic year 2021-2022 has reached 340 students, noting that the total number of graduates until 2020 has reached approximately 17,839 students.
