Introduction

Given the importance of developing women's leadership in higher education and participating in the decision-making process and permanent and effective presence in committees and leadership positions, the Ministry has adopted programs related to women's empowerment in cooperation with Iraqi universities and international organizations, where the Women's Empowerment Department was established in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research according to Ministerial Order No. 14 on 1/5/2021 to follow up on the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution (1325), and a unit was established to empower women in all universities and formations associated with the Ministry according to Ministerial Order No. 479 on 7/6/2021.

Unit Vision

Empowering women to be a major player in achieving sustainable development in a homeland that guarantees all their constitutional rights, makes them capable of dealing with challenges, enhances their role in all fields, achieves full protection for them, and guarantees them - without any discrimination - economic, social and political opportunities that enable them to advance their capabilities to declare the nation's affair.

Unit Message

Women acquire, develop and advance skills and knowledge to become effective and efficient community members and leaders who participate in decision-making, influence its formulation and strategic activation, in a way that meets the needs of the country in the current and future stages.

Tasks

  • Selecting field samples in the college from women in order to determine their current situation (economic, social, psychological) so that we can build some ideas that help them advance in their practical life.
  • Conducting comprehensive research to determine the extent of the problems that women suffer from and developing appropriate solutions for them.
  • Cooperating with international and community agencies and organizations in this regard.
  • Holding family educational seminars to combat violence against women and increase the awareness of its members of the importance of eliminating all types of domestic violence after listening to the experiences of abused women and responding to their needs.
  • Encouraging women from female teachers, employees and students to:
    • Effectively contribute to building society.
    • Increase leadership capabilities and potential.
    • Effectively contribute to leadership positions in the college.
    • Contribute to resolving crises, social interaction and accepting challenges.

Objectives

  • Work to increase the percentage of women leaders in the Ministry of Higher Education by highlighting women's competencies and achievements.
  • Develop women's scientific capabilities in higher education by facilitating and supporting their participation in local and international conferences.
  • Enhancing women's participation in economic development by supporting entrepreneurial projects and technological incubators.
  • Obtaining support from the international community and local and international organizations to contribute to the implementation of United Nations resolutions on women.
  • Increasing community awareness of the status of women and their rights and combating violence by holding more courses and conducting research with specialized centers.
  • Improving the image of women in the media in all its visual, audio and print forms.
  • Honoring creative and distinguished Iraqi women in their fields of specialization through creative awards or making documentaries about their achievements.
  • Supporting young female researchers who complete distinguished research at an early age in the doctoral stage according to specialized committees that select distinguished works for the purpose of supporting them.
  • Working to integrate the concept of gender into the Ministry's plans and programs.
