The College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad brings together deans of medicine in Iraq on the college campus.
At the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, the first in-person meeting of the Committee of Deans of Colleges of Medicine in Iraq took place, in a national academic scene that embodied the unity of Iraqi medical colleges, as the deans of colleges from various governorates of Iraq met on the grounds of the mother of medical colleges, in a picture that reflected a miniature Iraq united under the banner of medical education.
The meeting was chaired by the Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, represented by its Dean and Chairman of the Committee of Deans of Colleges of Medicine in Iraq, Prof. Dr. Ameen Al Alwany, in the presence of the Director of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Dr. Salah Hadi Al-Fatlawi, along with Professor Dr. Raghad Al-Hashimi, Administrative Assistant to the President of the University of Baghdad, representing the President of the University, as well as the Deans of Colleges of Medicine in Iraqi public and private universities.
In his address during the meeting, Professor Dr. Salah Hadi Al-Fatlawi commended the warm hospitality, organization, and reception extended to the delegation by the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad. He emphasized that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research supports both public and private medical education and their efforts to raise academic standards. He further stressed that the medical profession holds a paramount position within the Ministry and the country as a whole, given its direct impact on the lives of citizens, affirming that this is a significant national responsibility entrusted to Iraqi medical colleges.
For his part, the Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad and Chairman of the Committee of Deans of Colleges of Medicine in Iraq, Prof.Dr. Dr. Ameen Al Alwany, appreciated the great efforts made by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in supporting the Committee of Deans, praising the active role of the Scientific Supervision and Evaluation Authority, and stressing that what has been achieved in obtaining local and international accreditation for Iraqi medical colleges represents a double responsibility and a scientific and ethical trust, and that the medical colleges with their deans and teaching staff are capable of bearing this trust and raising it.
For his part, Prof. Dr. Raghad Al-Hashemi, Administrative Assistant to the President of the University of Baghdad, affirmed that the College of Medicine’s leading role in hosting scientific events is not new to it. It has always been a hub for excellence and innovation, and a unifying platform for national academic initiatives.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the guests toured the facilities of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad. During the tour, they were briefed on the educational infrastructure and academic environment of the college. The tour included observing the administration of the Creativity and Excellence Award for top medical students in Iraq, and reviewing its organizational mechanisms and the examination platforms used.
They also viewed the smart classrooms and modern technological equipment, reflecting the College of Medicine’s commitment to digital transformation and the adoption of the latest educational methods, in accordance with quality standards and academic accreditation.
This meeting underscores the pivotal position of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad as the leading academic authority for medical education in Iraq and the primary supporter of the unity and integration of medical colleges, contributing to enhancing the quality of medical education and serving the community and the national healthcare system.
