The Council of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, held its first meeting of the current academic year on Monday, 28 September 2026. The meeting was chaired by the Dean of the College, Prof. Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan Manea Al-Alwany, and attended by the Head and members of the Department. It was held in the Prof. Dr. Sarmad Khunda Hall at the teaching hospital affiliated with the Medical City Directorate.
The meeting addressed a number of academic, educational, and organizational matters, foremost among them student affairs and assessment mechanisms, compliance with academic requirements, and scientific research. Discussions also covered the organization of lectures, the formation of committees responsible for training, and the review and updating of the mechanisms for the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). In addition, several organizational matters related to the department’s operations throughout the academic year were discussed.
The meeting also addressed the scientific and organizational preparations for the First Middle Eastern Forum on Cardiovascular Diseases in Women, scheduled to be held next December. The event is expected to further strengthen the scientific presence of the College of Medicine and support collaboration and integration among medical specialties, as well as between healthcare and academic institutions.
The meeting concluded with a number of scientific and administrative recommendations and measures aimed at organizing the educational process, enhancing the efficiency of clinical training, and ensuring the smooth delivery of academic activities throughout the academic year.
As part of the visit to the teaching hospital, the Dean conducted a tour that included the Cardiac Catheterization Center, where he met with a number of College faculty members and specialist physicians to review the academic and clinical work environment and gain insight into ongoing activities.
Prof. Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan Manea Al-Alwani also met with the Head of the Department of Surgery at the Department’s headquarters in the teaching hospital. The meeting addressed ways to enhance academic and healthcare performance and strengthen integration and coordination among the academic departments and specialized centers, in line with the College’s commitment to advancing the quality of medical education and clinical training.
