At the place where his dreams once took shape, orphaned children from the Hands of Rain volunteer team planted saplings on the grounds of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad in memory of the late student Hisham Al-Jourani, three years after his passing due to illness. This humanitarian initiative transformed the act of planting into a lasting legacy of kindness and made loyalty a living memory that continues to flourish.

The team, accompanied by the late student’s mother, was received by the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan Mani’ Al-Alwany, during a visit that brought together the values of generosity and the remembrance of those who have passed away. The volunteer team comprises orphaned children and their mothers, who participated in this initiative to honor Hisham’s memory.

The children’s participation in planting the saplings carried a special significance. With their small hands, they breathed new life into the place, transforming each sapling into a symbol of love and devotion. Through the children and the plants they nurtured, the enduring impact of a life lived became evident: a legacy that survives its creator and takes root both in the place itself and in the collective memory of the community.

The visit was accompanied by a small commemorative exhibition held in the college courtyard, featuring photographs documenting volunteer activities, along with written recollections and personal mementos.

The children’s participation brought the exhibition to life. Amid the saplings they had planted and the pages preserving glimpses of a life once lived, Hisham’s memory remained alive within the grounds of the University of Baghdad’s College of Medicine. It was a tribute to those who have passed away and a celebration of the positive legacy they leave behind—a legacy in which branches continue to grow and the story lives on.
