Baghdad University ranks first locally and 21st among Arab universities in the Arab universities classification. The first version of the results of the Arab universities classification for the year 2023 was announced today, which was launched by the joint efforts of the Union of Arab Universities in cooperation with the League of Arab States, the Arab Organization for Education, Culture and Science (ALECSO), and the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils.
Baghdad University came in first place locally and 21st among 115 Arab universities that met the classification entry requirements. Al-Mustansiriya University came in 36th place, Al-Mustaqbal University came in 42nd place, and Anbar University came in 50th place.
The goal of the new Arab-international classification is to improve the outputs of higher education and scientific research to enable them to lead Arab development and bring Arab universities to the third and fourth generations of universities. It is to create an international classification in the Arab world with modern standards that keep pace with the requirements of the Arab world, alongside other international university classifications.
This classification depends on accuracy and objectivity through several indicators and standards that evaluate the university's comprehensive tasks, including the quality of teaching and learning, and the excellence of faculty members. This helps to develop a program of action for reform, development, scientific research, creativity, entrepreneurship, and innovation, so that the classification has an economic application aspect. It encourages scientific research based on creativity, development, and innovation in universities and encourages marketing scientific products, disseminating them, and managing technology to achieve the knowledge economy. It also includes an indicator of international and local cooperation in the Arab region and community service. It is worth mentioning that the number of universities that applied for evaluation reached 208 universities, of which 115 universities representing 16 countries out of a total of 22 countries of the League of Arab States countries were included in the classification.
