Investigating the Effect of Calcium Level Compared to Arterial Stiffness Index
The Department of Biochemistry at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, discussed the Master's thesis of the student (Ahlam Ali Lutfah) on her research entitled "The Effect of Calcium Level Compared to Arterial Stiffness Index on Arterial Atherosclerosis" on Saturday, (24th June 2023).
The examining committee, supervised by Prof. Maisa Jalal Majid and Assoc. Prof. Ameen Abdul Hassan Al-Alwani, and chaired by Prof. Basil Awaid Mohammed Saleh, consisted of Prof. Hassan Ali Farhan and Assoc. Prof. Shifa Jameel Ibrahim as members.
The aim of the thesis is to study the amount of calcification within the coronary arteries, which contributes to the development of arterial atherosclerosis.
The study concluded that an increase in the calcium content within the coronary arteries leads to arterial calcification, resulting in narrowing of blood flow and ultimately leading to the development of arterial atherosclerosis.
