Amid a distinguished gathering of senior academics and medical professionals, the College of Medicine at the University of Nineveh celebrated its Silver Jubilee, marking the 25th anniversary of its establishment. The ceremony commemorated a quarter-century of education, service, and achievement, and was attended by university presidents, deans of colleges of medicine, as well as a distinguished group of professors, experts, and academic figures.
The ceremony featured addresses by the President of the University of Nineveh, Prof. Dr. Osama Ismail Al-Mashhadani, and the Dean of the College of Medicine, Assistant Prof. Dr. Momen Junaid Al-Dabouni. Their speeches highlighted the most significant milestones in the College’s academic and scientific journey, its achievements, and its contributions to the education and training of physicians and to serving the wider community.
Prof. Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan Manea Al-Alwany, Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad and Chair of the Committee of Deans of Iraqi Colleges of Medicine, then delivered an address expressing his pride in participating in this distinguished occasion.
He emphasized that, “Twenty-five years in a person’s life may represent a stage; in the life of an academic institution, they constitute a legacy, traditions, and responsibility; and in the life of a college of medicine, they represent generations of physicians, thousands of patients, and years of education, research, service, and standing beside humanity in its most vulnerable moments, when knowledge and compassion are most needed.”
Al-Alwany further underscored the profound ties connecting the two medical schools in Baghdad and Nineveh. He noted that his presence in Mosul, representing both the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad and the Committee of Deans of Iraqi Colleges of Medicine, was not before an institution detached from the history of medicine in Baghdad. Rather, he said, it was an encounter with another chapter of the same book in which Iraq’s colleges of medicine have recorded the history of modern medicine in the country.
As part of the celebrations, Prof. Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan Manea Al-Alwany was honored by the Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Nineveh, Assistant Prof. Dr. Momen Junaid Al-Dabouni, in recognition of his participation in the occasion, his distinguished academic standing, and his contributions to advancing medical education in Iraq.
Al-Alwany also honored the President of the University of Nineveh, Prof. Dr. Osama Ismail Al-Mashhadani, along with a distinguished group of outstanding professors, in appreciation of their scientific and academic contributions and their role in shaping the College’s development and serving successive generations of its students and graduates.
The participation of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad in this distinguished occasion reflected the depth of communication, cooperation, and integration among Iraq’s colleges of medicine. It further reaffirmed the image of an academic institution that preserves its heritage, honors its pioneers, and confidently and distinctively continues to shape its future.
