Notable Ph.D. Thesis on Coronary Artery Disease and Hemochromatosis Discussed at University of Baghdad
On the morning of Tuesday, October 31, 2023, Noor Kitab Hashim Al-Hasnawi's thesis "Evaluation of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms of the Hemochromatosis Gene with Biochemical Variants of the Heart in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease in Diabetic and Non-Diabetic Type 2 Patients" was discussed at the College of Medicine's Clinical Biochemistry Branch.
Significant Findings in Genetic Research
The research identified a significant link between the genetic patterns of the HFE gene and coronary artery disease in patients with and without type 2 diabetes, suggesting a correlation with elevated iron levels in the blood.
Research Supervision and Committee
Supervised by Prof. Dr. Hala Ghazi Mahmoud and Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hussein Al-Meally, the committee included Prof. Dr. Huda Dhafir Yasin, Prof. Dr. Amin Abdul Hassan Manea Al-Alwani, Prof. Dr. Muataz Sabah Ahmed, Assistant Prof. Dr. Dhikra Hassan Muzkur, and Assistant Prof. Dr. Rana Ali Hamdi.
Aim of the Study
The study aimed to elucidate the relationship between elevated iron levels in hemochromatosis and its genetic forms in coronary artery disease patients.
Award of Distinction
The researcher was awarded the grade of distinction after her public defense, her use of modern scientific references, and her defense of her thesis.
