The College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad witnessed this evening, Monday, the twenty-seventh of November 2023, the opening of the First International Conference on Medical Education under the patronage of the Honorable Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, and the supervision and presence of the Honorable President of the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Munir Hamid Al-Saadi.
The conference, whose scientific activities were chaired by the Dean of the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Ameen Al-Alwani, the President of the Doctors Syndicate, the Chairman of the Committee of Deans of Medical Colleges in Iraq, an elite group of deans of Iraqi medical colleges, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Health and Environment Committee, a number of members of the House of Representatives, and Arab and foreign figures, attended the conference specialized in the field of medical education.
The activities of the opening ceremony of the conference, which coincided with the ninety-sixth anniversary of the founding of the college, included playing the republican peace anthem and reciting a verse from the Holy Quran, along with a pause of mourning for the souls of the martyrs in Gaza, and speeches presented by a number of gentlemen attending in confirmation of the long-standing and originality of the college and its impact in developing the path of medical education in Iraq.
The speeches also indicated that the college is continuing its endeavor to develop methods of evaluation, measurement, and evaluative examinations to measure the outcomes of medical colleges at the level of Iraqi universities, in addition to increasing cooperation between the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Higher Education to reach outcomes with solid scientific components that are commendable. In addition to reminding new doctors of the high human values in practicing the medical profession.
Regarding the importance and status of the College of Medicine, the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ameen Al-Alwani, pointed out in his speech during the opening of the conference that the College of Medicine, since its founding in the year 1927, has become a lofty scientific edifice that has and continues to contribute to providing medical education with educational foundations with a new methodology that aims to Improving and developing medical education by adopting comprehensive quality, education and evaluation, as well as using artificial intelligence and digital technology in its development methodology, which began in 2010 despite the challenges and difficulties. A group of committees held training courses on medical learning and the modern curriculum.
The college’s acquisition of national accreditation after great effort and the distinction of its students by obtaining first grades in the comprehensive exam is evidence of the comprehensiveness and strength of the college’s education curriculum despite the challenges. The British Fellowship exam, with its first and second parts, within the college is also a major step on the path to activating external relations in the field of medical education. To achieve the sustainable development goals of good education and good health.
The ceremony included a ceremony of chanting the medical oath for the graduates of the ninety-second batch, in an atmosphere filled with the sounds of the students’ families singing in celebration of their children’s achievement. The top ten students were also honored by the University President.
