Under the auspices of the Dean of the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, and in cooperation with the Arab Board of Health Specialties and the Scientific Council for Anatomical Pathology, a specialized scientific workshop on medical education and tumor classification was held on Thursday, January 8, 2026.
The workshop took place in the Medical Education Branch, located in the Basic Sciences Building at the College, and was led by Professor Dr. Ghazi Al-Zaatari, Vice President of the Scientific Council for Anatomical Pathology and Head of the Pathology Department at the American University of Beirut.
The workshop’s main topics were:
Lecture 1: Competency-based postgraduate medical education and curriculum development
Lecture 2: The latest updates in the WHO classification of thyroid neoplasms
The workshop was led by Consultant Physician Dr. Mohsen Abdul Ali Al-Hamami, Professor Dr. Kifah Hamdan Abdul Ghafour – Head of the Medical Education Branch, and Professor Dr.Khitam Razzaq Kadhim – Director of the Quality Assurance Division
The workshop targeted specialist physicians in histopathology, students of the Arab and Iraqi Boards of Pathology, postgraduate students in related medical specialties, as well as researchers and academics in the field of laboratory medicine.
This workshop is part of a series of scientific activities aimed at developing higher medical education in Iraq and keeping pace with the latest global developments in tumor classification, thus contributing to raising the competence of specialist physicians and improving educational outcomes.
