On Sunday, May 10, 2026, the Council of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad held its seventeenth meeting, chaired by the Dean, Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan Al-Alwany. The session addressed several important scientific, administrative, and academic matters, reflecting the College’s commitment to enhancing the quality of academic performance and advancing the educational and research process in accordance with rigorous university standards.

The meeting emphasized the necessity of full adherence to exams regulations, focusing  on the importance of maintaining order during exams and ensuring faculty members’ commitment to exam supervision. This contributes to providing a well-organized and fair exam environment that reflects the College’s distinguished academic standing, as well as guaranteeing the smooth conduct of examinations in accordance with approved ministerial regulations and instructions.

The Council also discussed several topics related to postgraduate students, particularly those concerning the mechanisms for scientific publication in reputable journals. Emphasis was placed on adhering to publication guidelines and ensuring the quality of submitted research, thereby strengthening academic rigor, elevating the research output of postgraduate students, and meeting the requirements of scientific classifications and modern research standards.

The session also addressed the guidelines for postgraduate student defenses, emphasizing adherence to established scientific and organizational procedures to maintain the high academic and scientific standards for which the college is known.

In another matter, the council discussed the guidelines for academic promotions and their follow-up mechanisms, focusing  on the importance of supporting faculty members’ academic development and streamlining promotion procedures to enhance the academic environment and encourage scientific research and knowledge production within the college.

During the meeting, the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan  Al-Alwany, invited Assistant Professor Dr. Hassanein Habib Ghali, Head of the Pediatric Medicine Council, to present a letter of thanks and appreciation, in recognition of his high level of commitment, distinguished scientific efforts, dedication and sincerity in performing his academic and administrative duties, and his active role in supporting the scientific progress and advancing institutional work within the college.

At the conclusion of its meeting, the council affirmed the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad’s continued commitment to adopting a path of academic and administrative development and working as a unified team to strengthen its leading scientific position in medical education in Iraq.
