The Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan Al-Alwany, received a high-level academic delegation from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, headed by the university’s president, Professor Dr. Seyed Reza Rais Karami.
The visiting delegation included the Vice President for International Affairs, Professor Dr. Kourosh Jafarian, and the Dean of the College of Alternative Medicine, Professor Dr. Mohammad Hossein Ayati. The visit was an official one, aimed at strengthening scientific and academic cooperation between the two institutions.
The visit was also attended by the Director General of Baghdad Medical City and the deans of the medical colleges at the University of Baghdad, as well as the Dean of the Institute of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. Discussions focused on the joint action plan stemming from the memorandum of understanding signed between the University of Baghdad and Tehran University of Medical Sciences, which aims to expand cooperation in academic, research, educational, and health fields.
The proposed plan includes the formation of a joint coordination committee, the development of medical education and postgraduate programs, the activation of academic and clinical exchange programs for students and resident physicians, and the launch of joint research projects in the fields of cell therapy, stem cells, tissue engineering, nanotechnology, precision medicine, and pharmaceutical sciences.
The two sides also discussed mechanisms for building partnerships between research centers of excellence, enhancing digital transformation and administrative cooperation, and launching international mobility programs and joint supervision of postgraduate students, all of which contribute to raising the level of medical education and scientific research and developing health services.
These steps underscore the commitment of the University of Baghdad and the College of Medicine to consolidating their international academic presence and expanding their network of scientific partnerships with reputable medical institutions, thereby supporting the pursuit of excellence and innovation and strengthening their position in global academic circles.
