A scientific workshop titled “Non-Cosmetic Uses of Botox” was held at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad. The workshop addressed the scientific and practical aspects of this drug, focusing on its therapeutic applications beyond its common cosmetic uses.
The workshop was presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Abdul Nasser Hussein Al-Abadi, a faculty member in the Physiology Department. It reviewed the history of Botox’s discovery and scientific development, as well as its general uses and potential side effects.
Dr. Al-Abadi also explained the methods of administering Botox according to established medical principles. He provided a comprehensive explanation of the medical conditions for which Botox is used therapeutically, presenting case studies of its use in treating muscle spasms.
During the workshop, he emphasized the importance of avoiding the incorrect use of Botox or its administration by unqualified individuals, due to the potential health risks and complications. He stressed the necessity of adhering to accurate diagnosis, appropriate dosages, and its application within established medical guidelines.
