Continuing the activities of the 19th International Scientific Conference, the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the National Blood Transfusion Center, organized a scientific workshop entitled "Bacterial Contamination of Blood Components" on Thursday, May 11th. The workshop was presented by a group of professors at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, and consulting physicians in the Medical City and the National Blood Transfusion Center.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness among doctors and workers in the field of blood component transfusion about the risk of transmitted infections during this process, in order to consider the side effects and minimize bacterial contamination in blood components.
The workshop, which presented its materials in several scientific lectures by the speakers, covered the required tests in the process of blood transfusion and proposed methods for preventing bacterial contamination to control the process of blood component transfusion.
The workshop recommended the need to control the process of blood component transfusion, introduce new tests, focus on all steps of blood preparation, and form a committee that submits its recommendations to the Iraqi Ministry of Health, in order to follow up and achieve safe blood transfusion operations free from bacterial contamination.
