The College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad celebrated the annual International Cerebral Palsy Day. The celebration aimed to provide support and advocacy, particularly for the children affected by cerebral palsy, exceeding two hundred thousand in Iraq. The goal is to rehabilitate them, provide the best medical services and care, ensure their rights, and offer equal life opportunities for this segment of society.
The event took place under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Na'im Al-Aboudi, and the supervision of Professor Dr. Munir Hamid Al-Saadi, the esteemed President of the University of Baghdad. The event was held as a carnival festival in the University of Baghdad's gardens in Jadriya on Thursday, the 5th of October.
In his speech, Assistant Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hasan Manea Al Alwany, the Dean of the College, emphasized the importance of the event and the role of the university in providing psychological and social support. Dr. Ameen Al-Alwani mentioned that the College of Medicine has incorporated cerebral palsy into its academic curriculum, both in theory and clinical aspects.
The carnival was organized in collaboration with the Cerebral Palsy Children Foundation in Iraq - Basra branch, and various specialized healthcare centers. It was attended by numerous academic and official figures representing the legislative authority.
The carnival included diverse activities, theatrical performances, charitable markets, and guidance programs in the field of rehabilitation medicine. The aim was to create awareness and provide medical care that can make a difference in the lives of those affected by cerebral palsy from early childhood to adulthood and self-sufficiency.
