A Specialized Scientific Workshop on Final Exam Data Analysis

Under the patronage and in the presence of the Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan  Al-Alwany, the College of Medicine, in cooperation with the Department of Quality Assurance and University Performance, held a distinguished scientific training workshop entitled “Methods for Reviewing Final Exam Data Analysis Processes.” This workshop was part of the College’s efforts to enhance the quality of the educational process and improve examination assessment mechanisms in accordance with approved academic standards.

The workshop session was moderated by Assistant Professor Dr. Lama Al-Obaidi, while the lecture was presented by Professor Dr. Khulood Rahim. During the lecture, she addressed the importance of analyzing exam question data as a precise scientific tool that contributes to measuring the quality of exams, ensuring the balance of questions, and verifying their conformity to approved standards. She also highlighted its role in measuring learning outcomes and exam results in line with quality and academic accreditation requirements.

The lecturer emphasized that analyzing question data is not limited to the statistical aspect alone, but represents a fundamental step in improving exam construction, developing measurement tools, and enhancing fairness and objectivity in evaluating student performance, which positively impacts the outcomes of medical education.

This workshop is the first of its kind at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, and is significant in establishing a culture of data-driven scientific assessment and supporting continuous improvement within the examination system.

For his part, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan  Al-Alwani, emphasized the importance of holding such specialized workshops. He noted that the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad has been working on this issue for many years through continuous and organized efforts in analyzing and evaluating examination questions, reflecting the college’s commitment to ensuring the quality of examinations and their outcomes.

The Dean explained that the college operates through three integrated committees: the Psychometric Committee, the Examination Question Evaluation Committee, and the Feedback Committee. He affirmed that these committees form a cohesive and complementary system that contributes to reviewing the quality of questions, analyzing examination results, and providing the necessary feedback to improve academic performance.

He also stressed the importance of clearly defining the tasks and responsibilities of each committee within what is known as the Job Description, to ensure institutional integration, precisely define roles, and achieve the highest levels of efficiency in managing the examination assessment process.

This workshop comes within the framework of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad’s orientations towards promoting a culture of quality and consolidating sound academic practices in building exams and analyzing their results, in order to support the college’s position and leadership in developing medical education in Iraq.
