This morning, Sunday, the twenty-fourth of the year 2023, the Anatomy department presented a scientific lecture to review published research entitled “Meckel-Gruber Syndrome: Exploring the Medical Dimensions and Partial Insights and Presenting the First Documented Iraqi Case,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Ahmed Muhammad Lutfi and Dr. Muhammad Imad, under the supervision of Professor Dr. Nawfal. Khudair Yas, teaching staff at the college. The aim of the lecture, is to shed light on a rare genetic disease, not well studied among Iraqi population which is Meckel-Gruber Syndrome, by reviewing the current literature on the disease, with a special focus on the importance of genetic data and studying it epidemiologically to determine the extent of its spread among Iraqis. The two researchers presented several topics, including providing a comprehensive review of the disease and indicating the degree of its rarity in various countries of the world, including Iraq. The lecture also focused on an application related to prenatal diagnosis and its methods, noting the treatment possibilities currently available, and presenting the first documented Iraqi case of this disease.
