The Council of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad held its twentieth session, chaired by the Dean, Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan Maneh Al-Alwany, and attended by council members, to discuss several scientific and administrative issues.

The session included hosting the Director General of the Medical City Department, Dr. Hassan Mohammed Abbas Al-Tamimi, to discuss prospects for joint cooperation and to develop a roadmap for improving student training and raising the level of healthcare.

Key outcomes of the meeting and points of agreement:

Institutional Integration: The partnership between the College of Medicine and Medical City is considered the cornerstone of medical education, clinical training, and patient care.

Education as a Shared Responsibility: The responsibility for student training is shared by all physicians in teaching hospitals—each according to their specialization—in parallel with their clinical duties.

Training and Care in Conjunction: The concept that clinical education and providing medical services to citizens are two inseparable and complementary paths is reinforced.

Field Presence: Emphasis is placed on the actual presence of professors and physicians with students in wards and clinical units to provide an interactive training environment.

Supporting Future Doctors: The administration of Medical City affirmed its commitment to providing adequate facilities for students and creating a suitable environment to prepare them as partners in developing the healthcare system.

The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to make the “student and patient” the central focus of their collaborative work, and to establish a new phase aimed at raising the quality of medical education and improving healthcare services.
