In implementation of the government program to adopt the Sustainable Development Goals and the media plan to reduce illegal immigration, the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, in cooperation with the Department of Immigration Affairs - Ministry of Immigration and Displacement, organized the awareness-raising symposium entitled “Reducing the Risks of Illegal Immigration,” today, Tuesday, the twenty-seventh of February. The topics of the symposium, whose awareness work was hosted in Al-Kindi Hall at the college, were presented by the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Ameen Al-Alwani, the Director General of the Immigration Affairs Department at the Ministry of Immigration and Displacement, Dr. Safaa Hussein Ahmed, and the Director of the Continuing Education Unit at the College, Professor Dr. Ghazi Farhan Haji. The symposium aims to explain the dangers of illegal immigration, the consequences of the migration of scientific talents and their suffering in different societies and the societies in which they were raised, and the resulting legal implications and the difficult situation that immigrants suffer from in foreign countries, especially after the imposition of the compulsory return law on them as a result of the European Union’s application of the Strategic Framework Agreement after its entry into force. It also included an introduction to the concept of illegal immigration, its causes, dangers, and the laws that limit it, with the presentation of a video clip depicting real scenes of the drowning of a group of Iraqi immigrants. The symposium, which was attended by a group of faculty members, and students, concluded with open discussions that were answered by those in charge of its management.
