In a new achievement added to its distinguished academic record, the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad has been awarded the Excellence Shield, securing first place in the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research’s National Ranking for Student Activities among Iraqi universities.
The award ceremony was held during the University Council meeting, under the patronage of Professor Dr. Baha Ibrahim Ensaf, President of the University of Baghdad, and in the presence of university vice presidents and representatives from the winning colleges.
The Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Ameer Thaher Hameedi, received the Excellence Shield on behalf of the College of Medicine. He represented the college alongside delegates from the other honored institutions:
College of Media (second place),
Al-Kindy College of Medicine (third place),
College of Administration and Economics (third place in the female student category).

This recognition celebrates the University of Baghdad’s overall first-place ranking in student activity engagement at the national level, owing to the diversity and excellence of its contributions across artistic, cultural, voluntary, and athletic domains.
The College of Medicine’s contribution stood out through the organization of various athletic tournaments, including futsal and other sports, as well as other enriching student-led initiatives. These activities were supported and encouraged under the direct guidance of the Dean, Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul Hassan Mani’ Al-Alwany, reinforcing a culture of healthy competition, collaboration, and personal development.
