On the sidelines of the 19th International Scientific Conference, the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad organized a workshop entitled “CCHF in Iraq – Current Situation and Future Prospects” in collaboration with the Iraqi Ministry of Health and the World Health Organization (WHO) – offices in Baghdad, Cairo, and Geneva.

The workshop, which is the first within the workshop and scientific sessions curriculum of the conference, aimed to examine the current situation of CCHF fever in Iraq and to discuss the most prominent scientific ideas and proposals with attendees delegated from the Ministry of Health and WHO to keep up with the latest developments regarding the disease.

Recommendations

At the end of the workshop, a discussion was opened between delegates from the Ministry of Health and WHO and attendees including doctors from various specialties at the college along with a number of students to come up with recommendations.

The recommendations included the necessity of cooperation between various related sectors to limit the spread of the disease and raise public awareness of its danger, ultimately leading to a reduction in recent increases in infections. Dr. Al-Lami thanked the attendees for enriching the workshop for the benefit of scientific and medical research in Iraq.

The presentations discussed the causes, symptoms, and methods of transmission of CCHF fever, as well as methods of prevention due to its danger and rapid spread in Iraq.
