Successful Surgical Operation at Baghdad University's College of Medicine
As part of the contribution of Baghdad University's College of Medicine in providing support and medical services to the Ministry of Health institutions, Dr. Abdul Nasser Hussein Amir Al-Abbadi, an assistant professor at the Physiology Department of the College and the head of the Neurophysiology Division at the Medical City Directorate, participated as a member of an Iraqi medical team in a successful surgical operation for a three-year-old child suffering from spinal cord and spinal column deformity.
The surgical procedure, in which the medical team utilized neuro-monitoring technology, was the first of its kind in the southern provinces of Iraq and was performed at Al-Diwaniya Teaching Hospital. The complexity of the operation lies in treating a rare condition where the spinal cord is divided into two parts with a bony mass, while being attached to the fourth vertebra. The surgery lasted for four hours and was classified as successful. The patient is currently in good health and recovering in the hospital's wards under the care of specialized doctors.
