On the morning of Wednesday, December 6, 2023, the Physiology Branch at the College of Medicine, University of Baghdad, discussed the master’s thesis entitled “EEG evaluation in children with autism,” submitted by the student Israa Imad Abdel-Razzaq. The aim of the study was to explain the brain waves measured by standard EEG and quantitative EEG analyzed by computer programs in autistic children and to link quantitative EEG changes to the clinical severity of children with autism The researcher concluded in her study that standard EEG detected focal or generalized epileptic changes in a quarter of children with autism, and quantitative EEG testing revealed changes in all children with autism, which makes it a more useful tool for evaluating children with autism. The study also showed that there is a significant relationship between standard EEG changes and the severity of autism, and that quantitative EEG changes underlie the appearance of autism symptoms in these children with the disease. The discussion committee consisted of members, Assistant Professor Dr. Uday Khaled Abdel Sattar and Lecturer Dr. Abdel Nasser Hussein Amir, and was headed by Prof. Dr. Affan Ezzat Hassan and supervised by Prof. Dr. Ghassan Thabet Saeed.
