Today, Wednesday, the twenty-seventh of March, the Physiology Branch at the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad held a scientific lecture based on research published in the international archives entitled “The relationship of amphetamine and crystalline substances that cause addiction to the spread of the phenomenon of suicide - a study on a sample of Iraqi youth,” presented by the lecturer at the college, Dr. Ahmed Muhammad Lotfi Al-Imam, in the graduate studies hall in the Physiology department. The lecture, which was attended by a number of college teachers and the head and rapporteur of the Physiology department, aimed to raise awareness of the dangers of addiction to amphetamine and crystal, and their devastating effects that reach the point of suicide. The researcher presented the chemical composition of the two substances, explaining the mechanism of their action in the brain and the entire central nervous system, and its effect on neurotransmitters. For users, in addition to explaining the medical uses of amphetamine. The lecture ended with a presentation of a number of results, the most important of which is predicting suicidal tendencies among crystal substance addicts based on several factors reviewed in the study, such as the addict’s social status, age, gender, and the nature of his social relationships. It should be noted that the research sample included 165 Iraqi youth users.
