In a move that reflects scientific openness and international cooperation, the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad hosted the prominent anthropologist, Dr. Omar Dewachi, Head of the Anthropology Department at Rutgers University in the United States. The visit came with the aim of strengthening the partnership and exchanging ideas with the Deanship of the College, represented by the Dean, Professor Dr. Ameen Al-Alwani, and the scientific research team in the fields of graduate studies and public health. During the meeting, which took place in a distinguished welcoming atmosphere, in the presence of the Assistant Dean of the College for Student Affairs, Professor Dr. Haifa Salman Al-Hadithi, and Professor Dr. Shatha Farouk Abdullah, Head of the Microbiology Branch, ideas were exchanged about scientific developments in the medical fields. The meeting also included discussion of organizing events and workshops focusing on public health, family and community health. Dr. Omar expressed his deep admiration for the urban and scientific development witnessed by the college, praising the great transformations it has witnessed since his graduation from it in 1997. It is worth noting that Dr. Dewachi, who holds a Ph.D. from Harvard University, is the author of the book “A History of Iraqi Medicine,” which relies on medical archives and memoirs of Iraqi doctors in this field. At the conclusion of the visit, the Deanship of the College of Medicine affirmed its continued support for research and scientific activities, and welcomed all proposals that contribute to improving the educational and medical reality, stressing its commitment to strengthening scientific cooperation with international academic institutions.
