As part of efforts to strengthen scientific and academic cooperation between the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad and the Medical City Department, the Dean of the College of Medicine, Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan  Al-Alwany, paid an official visit to the Medical City Department. During the visit, he met with the Director General of the Department, Dr. Hassan Mohammed Abbas Al-Tamimy. The visit also included a field tour of several medical and educational institutions affiliated with the Medical City.

On the sidelines of the visit, both parties attended a grand ceremony held at Baghdad Teaching Hospital to honor Dr. Haider Mohammed Baqir Al-Shammaa, a consultant in obstetrics and gynecology, on the occasion of his retirement. The ceremony was attended by a distinguished academic and medical audience, including a select group of faculty members, physicians, and colleagues.

The ceremony included speeches expressing deep appreciation and gratitude for Dr. Al-Shammaa’s significant scientific and professional contributions throughout his career. He played a vital role in developing medical education and clinical practice in obstetrics and gynecology, in addition to his efforts in training successive generations of physicians who benefited from his scientific and human expertise.

The speakers emphasized that the honoree exemplified dedication, commitment, and professional integrity, and had a profound impact on establishing medical and ethical values ​​within the educational and healthcare institution.

For his part, the Dean of the College, Professor Dr. Ameen Al-Alwany, stressed in his address at the ceremony the importance of the Obstetrics and Gynecology specialty and the role of the teaching and medical staff in the success of the educational and service processes. He affirmed the continued support of the College’s administration and the Medical City’s management for all scientific and medical professionals, contributing to the service of students and patients and raising the academic and healthcare standards.

This honoring reflects the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad’s commitment to recognizing its scientific luminaries and appreciating those who have given so much, affirming that the scientific and humanitarian impact of medical professionals remains a lasting legacy for institutions and future generations.
