The Dean of the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad, Professor Dr. Ameen Abdul-Hassan Maneh Al-Alwany, chaired a meeting with the Head and members of the Pharmacology Department to discuss several scientific and educational matters aimed at developing the teaching process and improving educational outcomes.
The meeting was attended by the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Dr. Mohammed Basil Ismail, and the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Amir Thahir Hamidi.
The meeting included a discussion of the content of the pharmacology lectures for the second and fourth years, and mechanisms for developing and updating the methods of presenting them in order to simplify the scientific material and enhance students’ comprehension and understanding of pharmaceutical concepts according to the latest educational methods.
The attendees also discussed the possibility of including additional topics within the Team-Based Learning (TBL) curriculum, which would allow for a more in-depth and interactive discussion of several scientific topics and contribute to developing students’ analytical thinking and practical skills.
The meeting discussed the mechanism for distributing annual coursework grades to ensure fairness and transparency. This will be achieved through the adoption of criteria that include attendance, daily exams, and scientific and educational activities, thus safeguarding students’ rights and enhancing their academic motivation.
In the same context, the meeting addressed the distribution of lectures among the department’s faculty members to maximize the utilization of scientific expertise, ensure the smooth implementation of the curriculum, and improve teaching performance.
The Dean of the College emphasized that developing curricula and teaching methods is a fundamental priority in the college’s strategy. This development aims to keep pace with modern academic advancements, enhance the quality of medical education, and solidify the College of Medicine at the University of Baghdad’s position as a leading academic institution in preparing qualified medical professionals.
